Is a laptop cooling pad beneficial to my Macbook Pro?
I got a laptop cooling pad for my Macbook Pro. It has a small fan powered by a USB. I was wondering if it really helps cool down the laptop. Does powering the fan via USB put additional strain on my laptop? The Macbook usually stays around 95 degrees Fahrenheit when I'm multitasking. The cooling pad was slightly expensive, and I was wondering if it's worth keeping.
Cooling pads are nothing but gimmicks.
The engineers who designed your laptop designed it to be able to dissipate the heat produced during operation, there is no need for supplemental cooling unless you are an idiot and block the vents during operation (which is what most people do by using it on their laps).
The only benefit a cooling pad gives is a hard, flat surface that allows the cooling solution to operate properly by keeping the vents clear of obstructions.
95 degrees Fahrenheit is plenty cool for any computer, you should only start to worry when the temp exceeds 150 degrees F.
